The Boy Who Couldn't Die by William Sleator

This is what I'm reading right now. (note: the cover of our copy is different than this one)

Great title, isn't it? It's it also a great book, typical William Sleator - spooky, eerie and suspenseful.
After 16 year old Ken's best friend dies in a plane crash, Ken decides he doesn't want to be so vulnerable. He combs the yellow pages until he finds a woman who will buy his soul. Ken becomes "the boy who couldn't die". Sounds great, doesn't it? Ken thinks so at first, but then of course realizes pretty quickly this is not such a wonderful thing. There wouldn't be a story if this was wonderful. In fact, this book becomes a modern day zombie story and Ken definitely does NOT want to be a zombie. But how does he get out of it? This is where the story gets interesting and I'm not going to tell you if Ken succeeds or not. Actually I don't know because I haven't finished the book yet. And besides, you'll just have to read it for yourself to find out because I'm not going to tell you!
So, what are YOU reading this summer?

Have you read Singularity by William Sleator? He is a great author! In Singularity sixteen year old twins Barry and Harry stumble across a gateway to another universe where time and space is distorted. This time shift not only changes the world they live in but their competitive relationship.

Another good book by Sleator is the Last Universe! Susan and her brother Gary explore their large garden and discover that by entering the often invisible maze at its center they can travel to other times and even change the what is happening today.

My favorite William Sleator book is Beasties. Doug, his sister Colette and their parents move to the north woods so the dad, a botanist, can study a fungus that grows on the trees there. Doug's best friend warns him about the Beasties who live in those woods. When they get there, the first two people they meet are missing parts of their bodies! Doug and Colette eventually discover the Beasties are living in tunnels deep underground. The brother and sister make friends with one of the creatures. You won't believe the sacrifice Doug makes for his Beastie friend!
